Beautiful, curative, natural springs and the meditation caves of Buddhist monks make the area very sacred for local people. On the trek you will reach one of the largest, pyramid shaped sand dunes in the country, Mongol Els, which emits a trilling sound. It is known as singing sand dunes in Mongolia.
Journey to Lake Ereen will be one of the highlights in addition to the chance to interact with local nomadic families and learn about their unique culture, which has been preserved down the ages. Ancient burial sites and ‘stone men,’ which you will see, bear witness to the importance of this area for local people today. Jean Granger Skipton, UK
In August this 2005 - at Wilderness Adventures Mongolia’s invitation, I went out for three weeks, taking with me some early learning books and cassettes. Unfortunately I then discovered the school had no power! One of the Rotarians in Ulaanbaatar donated us a complete English Language course - 6 cassettes and two work books, we really had to get some power installed. We purchased a cassette player, solar panel, 2 batteries and an inverter. These have all been taken to the school and are now in use.
This is only a small improvement however. Together with improved access to English teaching we would like to improve the school environment as presently the central heating system is broken and the rooms are heated by little stoves, wholly inadequate when winter temperatures reach -30C!
So anyone out there with a sense of adventure who would like to experience something completely different and unique I would just say "don't take my word for it, go and feel the difference". read more...
